Scholarships for Single Mothers

Single Mom Attending ClassSingle mothers typically have a full plate of duties and responsibilities. Yet, many are expert multi-taskers. Balancing parenthood, work and education is a common challenge. There is seldom enough money to meet education costs. Single mothers often believe a college education is beyond their reach for financial reasons. The common need for financial help for single mothers is available. Here are some scholarships for single mothers.

The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund.
Single parents living in Arkansas are eligible. While single mom’s are not the total focus of this financial aid, Arkansas single parents receive tuition help to achieve their education goals.

The Jeanette Ranking Foundation Scholarship Program. Over 500 women have received these scholarships since 1978. Available from November through February, these scholarships for single mothers help particularly those 35 and older, complete their education.

The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education for Low Income Women and Children. Since 2003, this foundation has furthered the passion of Congresswoman Mink to provide educational access, support and opportunities for single mothers and their children.

The R.O.S.E. Scholarship. Targeted to women who have escaped from domestic violence, this scholarship offers monies to women survivors to attend colleges in the New England region.

The W.I.S.P. Change Your World Scholarship. President and scholarship founder, Doris Buffet, established the Women’s Independence Scholarship Program (WISP), believing that every student who is willing to work hard should have the opportunity to earn a degree. Since 2007, these scholarships have helped motivated single parents with financial need to complete their education.

Single mothers focused on earning new education credentials have other opportunities for scholarships. The Internet allows single parents to find additional scholarships for single mothers to earn Bachelors and Masters Degrees.

There are also a few life insurance products that combine protection with college savings plans. Using this approach, single mothers can create their own personal “scholarship fund.”

“Seek and you will find” is the key phrase. Single mothers have all of the usual financial aid options, along with some special opportunities to receive scholarships and/or grants to help them further their education and earn degrees that formerly seemed to be out of their reach.
